You think it's like this but it's really like this

So The Village is awesome, I mean really awesome, ****1/2 kind of awesome, so awesome that when the An M. Night Shyamalan Film credit appeared at the end I began to applaud and remarked to my friend that it was a "thing of beauty."

I was the only one applauding, though. And a guy a few seats down from me stood up and declared it "the worst fucking movie [he's] ever seen." And Ebert hates it. And so does the Flick Filosopher, which doesn't make me happy. And Robert hates it because "there were no space monkeys." Judge for yourself how serious that is. But hey, to each his/her own. I loved the damn thing.

And man, oh man, do I want to write a review, but everything I want to talk about has to do with the ending, which I absolutely refuse to give away. But it appears that this time around, Night had something to say, and he did it brilliantly, in a way that reminds me of Ray Bradbury or Harlan Ellison or old black-and-white Twilight Zone episodes, the way Science Fiction (caps intentional) should be, the way that junk like I, Robot and The Chronicles of Riddick could never be but only dream of being (actually, they don't, which is the problem).

And Ron Howard's daughter is a great actress. I guess those Opie genes skipped a generation. Thankfully.

Everyone in the world needs to see this movie, not now, but right now. If only so I can talk about it.

(Oh, and I understand there are many people who liked "The Sum of His Parts." Thanks.)

much too young to focus but too old to see

So: I saw a movie on Saturday. Good for me.

I also saw Spider-Man 2. ***. Hoo-ray.
